For the upcoming Fall Woodworker’s Fair on Saturday, October 21st and Sunday, October 22nd, Bailey Wood Products is highlighting some of the new Vendors who will be showcasing the products of their woodworking talents this year.
The son of a woodworker who was a past president of the local woodworking club in the late 1980’s, Jason Zeiner may very well have “sawdust for blood”. Jason made his first woodcarving, a bust of a horse head as a Christmas gift for his grandparents, a gift that they kept their entire lives, and which is in Jason’s keeping since their passing. That carving is a reminder of where his own love of woodworking started.
Currently employed as a full-time cabinet maker, Jason started making pipes during the winter of 2015, after spending time with a friend who smoked a pipe. The aroma of the tobacco invoked fond memories of a time when his great uncle would come in from the fields and sit on the porch, light his pipe, and talk to his little dog and to the young Jason. About six months after smoking his first pipe, Jason also took up pipe making.
While a number of hardwoods are suitable for pipe making, Jason primarily uses Briarwood that he purchases from overseas. When asked what his favorite part of pipe making is, Jason told us that “seeing the finished product”, and “getting to see the stunning grain as he turns and carves the shape.” He says, he often thinks “it’s so cool that I get to discover what God hid in this piece of wood that I get from the other side of the world.” For the second year in a row, Jason is making the pipe of the year for New Tobacco Village of Whitehall, PA.
