We’d like to introduce you to the beautiful carving work of Fausto DelGrosso. Fausto has been carving for over 60 years. He got his start carving in the Boy Scouts when he was around 12 years old. Fausto went on a camping trip and forgot his utensils. His Scoutmaster handed him a piece of wood and Fausto carved a fork and spoon…and so began his love of carving. His favorite subject to carve is birds….all different kinds of backyard birds, from nuthatches to mockingbirds. He has entered many competitions with the Ward Foundation and has won quite a few awards.
Fausto’s favorite wood to carve is cherry, but he uses many different wood species. The mantle you see here is carved out of walnut. It’s amazing to me that it took him only 2 weeks or so to carve this beautiful work of art! Fausto has been carving mantles for around 20 years. When asked about his inspiration, he said he saw a an oak leaf laying while he was mowing grass and thought, I can carve that. And so he did…
Fausto has known carvers from all around the world and finds that all are straightforward, honest people. He says carvers and woodworkers in general are cut from the same cloth and can be trusted with anything. I have to say I agree.
This mantle is available for sale. If you are interested, contact the office at Bailey Wood Products and we can connect you with Fausto and this beautiful mantle.
If you have a special project or a great woodworking story you’d like to share, contact Leslie in the office. We’d love to feature you in an upcoming blog post.
