In anticipation of the 5th Annual Fall Woodworker’s Fair on October 21 and 22nd, Bailey Wood Products is pleased to introduce some of our new vendors. This week’s vendor is Josh Schmidt of LivingOriginal® with Schmidt’s Furniture Design Company®
As a Bailey customer who avidly collects live edge walnut in anticipation of his next project, Josh is also one of our youngest vendors. It is always a pleasure to see succeeding generations bring their own vision to the wood shop. To say that Schmidt’s furniture imparts an element of originality to anyone’s home would be an understatement. Combining wood with industrial metal elements elevates his furnishings beyond the traditional craft into a modern art form. Josh not only coaxes the inherent beauty out of the wood he chooses for each piece of furniture, he designs and fabricates all the metal components as well.
Previously employed in a cabinet making shop, Josh loves the challenge and complexity of each new project that his original furniture designs require. Schmidt’s Furniture Design Company® primarily does work on a custom order basis. Steel/Hickory Trestle Base made by Schmidt’s Furniture Design® supports a 2″ thick top weighing in at over 650 lbs. 7′ round concrete top, which was made by Kevin @solidrockconcretedesign for one of his clients.
Josh calls this coffee table “Midnight Walnut”. The carbon steel base is powder-coated in a satin midnight black. The top is two pieces of live edge black walnut bookmatched with two knots drilled out, and a tube plug for some accents. There is a mini table to go with it.
